What a fun weekend!
Saturday was Ellsworth Family Lake Trip. For those of you who don’t know, Ellsworth is my Delta Zeta family name. These women are my 2nd family, some of my closest friends, and my don’t-you-wish-your-sorority-family-was-so-cool family. Not everyone could make it this year for the 3rd annual EFLT (we missed you Mignon, Jen, Becky, and Rachel!), but we still had a good crowd. Plus we had two 5-year olds, two 3-year olds, and 19-month old twins to add to the fun of the day. It was great! The weather, however, was not. Obviously someone up there was mocking me. I mean, we’ve had a drought for like a month, and the one day that I’m having 15-20 people over to the lake to do lake things and sunny things and warm weather things, it rains.the.entire.day. Well, to be fair that’s not exactly true. I was hopeful at 9am when it was sunny and blue skies. By 11:45 we were heading back up the hill for an early lunch after thunder forced us out of the water. After lunch, we headed back into the water and literally as soon as we did it started sprinkling. No big deal, we were already wet swimming anyway. Well this thought obviously caused some sort of “oh yeah? Then watch this!” phenomenon, because the next hour and a half of swimming consisted of sprinkling rain, then steady rain, then little-bitty-stinging-rain (Forrest Gump? Yes?), then no rain just long enough to be hopeful before my hopes were dashed by what we call “set-in” rain, complete with scary looking rain clouds ready to dump gallons upon gallons of rain on my happy little party (it’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to!). Once again thunder (and obnoxiously hard pouring rain) forced us out of the water. By this point it was kind of chilly outside, so we huddled inside the boathouse to get warm. Too bad the rain didn’t let up, so we got wet all over again as we dashed up the hill to the house for a few hours. Eventually, the rain did let up and we got to go for a boat ride and have a session of non-raining swimming. I suppose it could have been worse, in that it could have been storming and we didn’t get to swim at all, but that would be looking at the bright side. And I prefer to complain that my event wasn’t rain free. So hmpf.
Sunday was a low-key day at the lake with just the family (of the non-sorority nature). And let me just say, that for most of the day Sunday the sky was blue, the sun was hot, and the damn birds were even chirping. Seriously? In all fairness we did have a pretty good storm to run us in at dinner time. Oh, but my favorite part of Sunday? We are sitting on the dock hanging out, getting ready to go on a boat ride. All of a sudden we hear the song from the ice cream truck (I would totally type it out for added effect, but considering it has no words I fear it would be lost in translation). You know the song, the one that makes your ears perk up, a smile appear on your face, and visions of nutty buddies and popsicles dance through your head. And considering we live 15 miles from town, we never hear this song out in these here parts (kind of like cable, some things you just don’t grow up with out in the sticks). Out of sheer excitement hearing this song, I throw my arms up in the air in a sort of celebratory dance. Mr. Ice Cream Man totally interpreted my celebratory ice cream song dance to mean “hey dude we want some ice cream!” and he totally pulled in our road! Then we are thinking he is obviously just turning around, because there is no way he can find his way down here to the lake. Then the exciting ice cream song is really close. Like, really close, echoing-off-the-side-of-our-house close. And there it is, in all of its ice cream truck glory, song blaring and all, he pulls right down to the end of the driveway at the lake. Since this was totally my fault, accidentally flagging him down and all, I run up to the house to get some money (I figure it’s only fair if it’s my treat) while Sam and Claire rush over to see what this whole ice cream truck is all about. They had never seen it before! (Note: I have totally clenched the Best Aunt Ever award, accident or not) So, that was our excitement for the day, a visit from the ice cream truck. How cool!
Oh yeah...you got the Best Aunt award for this treat! And pictures to prove it!!
