(No)Sleepover

Sam and Claire spent the night last night and we had ourselves a good old-fashioned slumber party. Sam has spent the night with me before, but it was the first time that both of them spent the night together. I knew I was in for an interesting evening when they both said they were sleeping in my bed with me. By the time I was ready to go to bed, Claire was lying sideways and there was no room for me. I moved her back to her spot, and climbed into bed (actually, I sort of inched my way onto the 3 inch space that was left for me). The next five minutes were so hilarious I thought my laughing was going to wake them up because I was shaking the bed. I got myself so tickled that the more I thought about how tickled I was the more I laughed. I got a foot in the stomach almost immediately, followed by a hand to the face, another foot to the chest, an arm slung around my neck, a finger up my nose, and a hair pull. I don’t know how that child gets any rest at all as much as she moves. This happened between 12:30 and 12:35, and the rest of the night went something like this:

2:00 – (look at the clock) sweet, an hour and a half later. More consecutive sleep than I thought I would get. Oh, and I woke up because she slung one arm around my neck, slid the other arm under the back of my neck, and was snoring about a quarter of an inch from my ear. Fix covers.

3:00 – two feet to the stomach. She has effectively moved me almost completely off the bed. Move her, fix covers.

4:00 – she rolls over and hits me in the face, opens her eyes and looks at me, smiles, and immediately falls back sound asleep. More laughing from me. Fix covers.

4:30 – I wake myself up by almost falling off the bed. Move her, fix covers.

5:15 – this time I got a foot to the face, which means I had to turn her back around again. Fix covers.

6:15 – Sam and Claire wake up and say “is it time to get up Kelly?” and I reply “No, it is too early, go back to sleep”. Fix covers, roll over, fall back asleep, assume they get the message.

7:00 – Claire wakes up for good.

Somehow Sam slept through all of this, even though most times she rolled away from me she landed some part of her body on him. And, did I mention, that I pretty much like my space when I sleep, and can’t sleep when someone is snoring? Yeah, I was all kinds of out of my comfort zone. But, even though I got hardly any sleep, and was dead tired this afternoon, and have a headache tonight from being tired, I was laying on my bed earlier thinking about how much fun it was.

That said, I am still really looking forward to going to bed tonight BY MYSELF.
